Bank account details for sale for £5

According to BBC, a new online security report reveals that numerous UK bank account details are being sold by cybercriminals in the underground for as little as £5 per account.

Fraudsters can buy the account and their holders' details in so called cybercrime hypermarkets that store information about stolen identity from either private computers using spyware or from online services such as widely used community sites.

According to Symantec, identities of EU nationals reach higher prices because they can be used all across the European Union for fraudulent activity. Especially UK bank accounts information is sought after by criminals. Highest prices get accounts assigned to well established businesses but private bank customers are also affected.

The report highlights several ways criminals attempt to gain access to confidential bank information. The most widespread way of hijacking bank account information is a personalised attack on a customer's PC.

Symantec reports some account information and credit card numbers and even personal identity are sold in bargain bundles.
